Related List
This article explains how the Related List field works in the Sintel Apps Designer and how to configure it on your form.
The Related List field allows you to display items from another SharePoint list that are linked to the current form item. It creates a parent-child relationship between two lists.
This is commonly used when one main record needs multiple associated records.
What Is a Related List?
A Related List displays items from a secondary list that are connected to the current form item.
It is commonly used for:
- Expense line items linked to an expense claim
- Tasks linked to a project
- Assets linked to a site
- Comments or actions linked to a request
The main form acts as the parent, and the related list items act as child records.
How to Add a Related List to Your Form
Follow these steps:
- Open the Layout tab in the Designer.
- Drag and drop the Related List field onto your form.
- Click on the Related List field on the canvas.
- In the left panel, select Edit Fields.
- Drag and drop the required fields from the left Fields panel into the Related List panel.
These selected fields will appear as columns within the related list display.
Configuring the Related List
Once added, you can configure:
-
The fields displayed as columns
-
Column widths
-
Field order
-
Visibility of fields
You control which fields users can see in the related list view by selecting and arranging them in the configuration panel.
When to Use a Related List
Use a Related List when:
-
One form needs multiple entries of related data
-
You need structured line items
-
You want to avoid repeating fields multiple times in a single form
-
Data should be stored in separate but connected lists
Do not use Related List for simple repeatable sections — it is designed for list-to-list relationships.
Best Practices
- Keep related lists focused and minimal.
- Only display essential columns.
- Set appropriate column widths for readability.
