Enhanced Rich Text Editor

What It Is

An advanced formatting field with extended editing capabilities.

Allows

  • Full formatting toolbar
  • Advanced styling
  • Hyperlinks
  • Tables and lists
  • Copy and paste from external sources
  • Image pasting directly into the editor
  • More document-style editing

Best Used For

  • Detailed reports
  • Long structured responses
  • Content that may later be exported
  • Document-style entries
  • Rich content that includes images, links, and formatting

Important Considerations

Enhanced Rich Text:

  • Stores content as HTML
  • May impact integrations or reporting
  • Should not be used for simple data capture
  • Is not ideal for fields used in filtering or calculations
  • Requires additional storage for embedded images
  • May require additional SharePoint permissions for image uploads

Image Storage and SharePoint Integration

When an Enhanced Rich Text field is added to a form, Sintel Apps automatically creates a dedicated SharePoint document library to store images pasted into the editor.

Key points:

  • The library is created automatically when the form design is saved.
  • The library is hidden by default from normal site navigation.
  • Users must have Contribute permissions to the library in order to upload pasted images.
  • Images are stored in folders organised by the associated list GUID.
  • Images are referenced directly from SharePoint and can be displayed in both authenticated and anonymous forms.
  • Images are not linked to specific list items through library metadata; they are referenced from the HTML content stored in the field.
  • If an image upload fails, the form can still be saved. A warning or error message will be displayed to notify the user that the image was not uploaded successfully.

When to Use

Use Enhanced Rich Text only when users genuinely need document-level formatting, embedded images, or rich content editing. For standard comments, notes, or simple text entry, a Multiple Lines of Text field is usually sufficient and easier to manage.
