Understanding the Underlying SharePoint List

Every Sintel Apps form is built on a SharePoint list.

The SharePoint list acts as the data storage layer, while Sintel Apps provides the enhanced interface, logic, and workflow functionality.

Understanding this relationship is essential when building and maintaining forms.

How the List Works

When you add a field in the Layout tab and save your form, Sintel Apps creates or updates a corresponding column in the underlying SharePoint list.

For example:

  • Text field → Single line of text column
  • Yes/No field → Yes/No column
  • Date field → Date column
  • Number field → Number column

The data is stored in SharePoint — not in Sintel Apps itself.

What the List Controls

The SharePoint list controls:

  • Data storage
  • Version history
  • Permissions
  • Attachments (if enabled)
  • List-level settings

Sintel Apps controls:

  • Layout and presentation
  • Conditional logic
  • Workflow processes
  • Form behaviour

Why This Matters

Because data is stored in SharePoint:

  • It respects SharePoint permissions
  • It supports version history
  • It integrates with other Microsoft 365 tools
  • It can be reported on using Sintel BI or Power BI
  • It can be accessed via Microsoft Graph

This architecture is important for governance, compliance, and long-term sustainability.

Sintel Apps does not move your data outside Microsoft 365. It works within your existing tenant and uses SharePoint as the data foundation.

That means:

  • Your data remains in your environment

  • Your existing retention policies still apply

  • Your Microsoft 365 security model is respected

  • Your data can be accessed independently of Sintel Apps

If, for any reason, you decide not to use Sintel Apps in the future, your data will remain safely stored in a standard SharePoint list.

You do not lose access to your information.

This provides reassurance for IT teams and decision-makers that:

Sintel Apps enhances Microsoft 365 — it does not replace or isolate it.

Important Considerations

Do not manually rename list columns after building a form.
Avoid deleting list columns that are used in the form.
Always test changes in a controlled environment.
Understand that permissions are enforced by SharePoint.

In Summary

Sintel Apps enhances SharePoint — it does not replace it.

The SharePoint list is the data foundation, while Sintel Apps provides the intelligence, structure, and user experience on top.
